The primary goal of this project was to prove that Game Engine & XR technology could be used to create multi-format outpu through a single workflow. In order to do this I created the characters of Ponkie the Ponkupine and reimagined Galilio & wrote an original short film showing the famous scientist and his heithertoo unheard of assistant preparing to look at the moon for the first time in 1609.
The technical aspects of the project focused on 2 main outputs, 16x9 broadcast quality animation & an android based game, which could function on either mobile or VR platforms.
I worked with concept artist James Cassettari & Animators & Game Engine designers Dan Stankowski & Stephen Stephenson to develop the look & feel of the world we were creating.
As the workflow evolved it was clear that the XR tools offered benifits to some elements of the proposed pipeline but not others so a mixture of XR & traditional CGI tools were used to create the assets.
Real-Time motion capture technology was used to animate the characters allowing the actors performances to be rendered directly into the Unity built enviornment.
After the initial motion capture work, specific facial capture work was completed using Unity's native features & the entire production was then completed and rendered out of Engine.
Simultaniously the same assets and enviorments were used to create a puzzle game that worked across both mobile and VR devices, proving the orignal goals of the project.
