Being an twelve-year-old princess in the Kingdom of  Hamington isn't all it’s cracked up to be, at least for Princess Olivia. Her father thinks he knows what’s best for her. Her mother constantly pries into her hobbies, plus she has an older brother to look after. And if that's not enough to contend with, she’s just made friends with a slightly magical elf, has to recover the kingdom’s magical golden egg, outsmart the king of the dragons, liberate a pile of treasure from a troll’s bridge and win a royal jousting competition.

Princess Olivia’s life is beginning to get more complicated as she realises hers isn’t the only secret in the family. Events from her father’s past threaten to ruin a well-earned family holiday. Long lost relatives and long forgotten wizards threaten to cover the kingdom in eternal winter, and far away to the north a mysterious threat looms over everything. With mermaids, pirates, ghosts and wizards all becoming part of Olivia’s life, the young princess must accept just how strange her family is. But on the plus side it does mean more presents at her birthday party.

Olivia is growing up fast and her father’s refusal to see that is driving her mad. She is old enough to battle Vikings and strong enough to ride on the back of a dragon, but her father won’t let her ride in a horse race. Olivia begins to understand the responsibility she has to her friends and the kingdom as she embarks on an epic journey that sees her encounter Onza cats and grizzly black bears. In her efforts to save a friend Olivia also discovers she isn’t the only member of her family to make bad decisions. She also learns that decisions from someone’s past can greatly affect other people’s future.

Life isn’t easy when you are twelve, especially when the fate of your friends and family is resting on your shoulders. With gruesome bears, angry Vikings and fearsome yetis all in her way, Olivia must trust the people from her uncle’s past to save her friends’ future. Olivia also learns that some mistakes are not easily forgiven and not all Vikings are the same. All the while a five hundred year old legend threatens to destroy the Kingdom of Hamington, but hopefully not before Olivia gets to be a bridesmaid at her cousin’s wedding.

Missing dwarfs, migrating dragons and angry fathers are just a few of the things Princess Olivia has to worry about as she sets out to discover the origins of the ferocious Jormungand and uncover a way of defeating the beast. However, nothing could prepare her for the truth and even less for the new threats she must deal with. In a race against time, vindictive pirates, cranky dwarfs and false friends all conspire against her as her journey takes a number of unexpected twists and turns.

Far from home and frequently locked up or trapped, Olivia is having a really hard time. Corrupt magistrates with illegal gold mines and treacherous pirate captains hunting for long lost treasure seem to be dominating her life. While Olivia strives to help the people she encounters, she must also recover the missing discs if she has any chance of saving her father and the kingdom. As more faces from her uncles past complicate her present, Olivia finds herself further away from home than she has ever been, which is going to make defeating the evil Viking King Bana Nahoffle that much harder.

So much to do, and so little time to do it. Before Olivia can even think of saving her father and his newly crafted fleet of ships she must first capture Billious Cracker and take back her own ship, the Midnight Sun. A frantic race across the seas begins and one way or the other it will all end in a final confrontation with the evil Viking King Bana Nahoffle. Pirates, Vikings, soldiers, dragons, mermaids and sea monsters dominate the landscape in a final showdown that will change Olivia’s life forever.
